Sesame oil is one of the three best edible oils announced by WHO, not only has a high nutritional value, but also has medicinal value, is included in the Pharmacopoeia of China, the United States, Japan and other countries, and is therefore known as "the king of oil". China is one of the major countries in the cultivation and production of sesame, its production ranks first in the world, sesame oil in people's daily life occupies a very important position.
Recently, the Anhui Provincial Consumer Protection Commission announced the sesame oil quality comparison test. The test of 54 brands of sesame oil, Ma Xiang Yuan , Yi Sheng Xiang , Centennial Chu's , Zhang Jia Brahma , Xiya Kitchen 5 brands of sesame oil have failed to meet the standard items.
In order to guide the majority of consumers to choose safe and healthy sesame oil, the Consumer Rights Protection Commission of Anhui Province carried out a sesame oil consumption survey and sesame oil quality comparison test series from September to December 2018.
Based on the sesame oil consumption survey, the staff of Anhui Consumer Protection Commission purchased 54 brands of sesame oil as consumers through shopping malls, supermarkets, farmers' markets and online e-commerce platforms, including 51 domestic brands and 3 imported brands. The brands cover Yanzhuang, Li Jinji, Luhua, Mrs. Le, Fulinmen, Hu Yumei, Jinlongyu and so on.
The test is mainly based on the "National Consumer Association Comparative Test Work Specification (Trial)", GB/T16759-2008 "General Principles for Comparative Tests of Consumer Goods and Related Services", GB7718-2011 "National Standard for Food Safety General Principles for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods", GB/T8233-2008, GB/T8233-2018 "Sesame Oil" and other national laws, regulations and standards. National laws, regulations and standards, the project involves commodity labeling, fatty acid composition, acid price, peroxide value, aflatoxin B1, benzo[alpha]pyrene, sesamin, sesamolin and vitamin E and other indicators. The test results are only responsible for this test sample.
Special note, the new GB/T8233-2018 national standard for sesame oil was implemented on December 1, 2018, and in order to help consumers better understand the quality of sesame oil, this report combines the 2008 and 2018 versions of the standard for analysis and comparison.
From the perspective of purchasing channels, the test results of 5 brands of sesame oil purchased from online platforms all meet the standard; of the 40 brands of sesame oil purchased from supermarkets, 37 test results meet the standard, with a compliance rate of 92.5%; of the 6 brands of sesame oil purchased from the market, 4 test results meet the standard, with a compliance rate of 66.67%.
The sesame oil comparison test, 11 brands of sesame oil received five stars (quality), respectively: Longxi brand a drop of sesame seed oil, gold dragon fish brand pure sesame oil, nine ghosts brand thick mouth sesame oil (Japan), Yanzhuang brand sesame seed oil, Fulinmen brand first class of small-ground sesame oil, Luhua brand sesame seed oil, CuiZhi brand black sesame seed oil, DELONGPAPPALA brand of small-ground sesame oil, ZEN De brand ancient stone-ground sesame oil, Li Jinji brand pure sesame oil, Mrs. Le brand sesame oil.
In this test, three brands, Centennial Chu's, Hu Zhenxing and Fuyixiang, had some problems with their acidity.
Centennial Chu's 100% Pure Sesame Oil (labeled grade: first class; manufacturer: Shangqiu Zhu's Food Co., Ltd, production date: 2017.11.16) acid price test results of 2.5mg/g, does not meet the requirements of the GB/T8233-2008 standard, in line with GB/T8233-2018 Standard requirements;
Hu Zhenxing Black Sesame Oil (origin: Singapore, date of production: 2018.01.03) and Fuweixiang Black Sesame Oil (labeled grade: Grade 2, manufacturer: Shanghai Fuweixiang Oil & Fats Food Co.) The acid price was 3.2mg/g and 3.4mg/g respectively, which meets the requirements of GB/T8233-2008 standard and does not meet the requirements of GB/T8233-2018 standard.
In the sesame oil of this comparative test, the benzo[α]pyrene of 51 brands of sesame oil complied with the national standard, but benzo[α]pyrene was detected in 15 groups of sesame oil samples, and the values of two groups were ≥2.0 μg/kg. benzo[α]pyrene is a recognized strong carcinogen. Due to its strong lipophilicity, oils and fats are often reported to be one of the main sources of benzo[α]pyrene in food, and its main production pathways are: contamination of benzo[α]pyrene in the air or soil during the growth and drying process of oilseeds; production of oilseeds during high temperature frying of seeds; and production of oils during heating and desolvation of oils in the leaching method. Therefore, in recent years, more and more attention by researchers and the world's attention, the EU 629/2008 document stipulates that the maximum residue limit of benzo [α]pyrene in edible fats and oils is 2 μg/kg, and China's GB2716-2005 "Hygienic Standard for Edible Vegetable Oils" stipulates that it is 10 μg/kg.
The test results also show that the vitamin E, sesamin and sesamum oils of different sesame oils contained vitamins. E, sesamin, and sesamolin are very different from one sesame oil to another.
The Anhui provincial consumer protection commission said the substandard samples found in the test will be transferred to the relevant administrative departments for processing.
