Buxus macrophylla is an evergreen shrub or small tree with dark green and black color, smooth branches and leaves and no fluff. Its leaves are leathery or thin leathery, oval or oval or oblong-lanceolate or even lanceolate, and its apex is blunt or sharp. Its leaf surface is shiny as if it can show a person, in which the veins protrude to both sides, with many lateral veins and long petioles. May is the flowering season of Euonymus japonicus every year, and the seeds mature in July and August. Buxus macrophylla naturally likes sunny environment and is resistant to shade. Light for more than 5 hours a day can grow well in semi-cloudy environment.
Buxus macrophylla is very hardy. The whole Yellow River basin and Xinjiang, Gansu, Hebei and Northeast China can be planted. It overwinters naturally in winter and has strong vitality. It is a rare evergreen plant in the north. Drought tolerance is average, and nursery planting needs frequent watering and adequate maintenance. It grows rapidly and vigorously in fertile and deep soil, and has strong germination ability. As hedge seedlings and big-leaf boxwood balls, it has excellent germination ability and is resistant to pruning, and almost every leaf can germinate. There are also several main varieties: boxwood with golden heart, boxwood in Phnom Penh, boxwood with silver edge and boxwood in Hokkaido.
