At that time, Lv Zhi, the father and wife of Hanwang Liu Bang, and four men, one son and one woman, were caught by Xiang Yu and locked up in the army, and their lives were in danger at any time. Liu bang was unable to save his father, wife and children, so he wanted to negotiate with Xiang Yu peacefully, and asked Xiang Yu to put his relatives back, and the two sides stopped fighting, with very low conditions. Xiang Yu was also in a dilemma at this time, and his commissary was almost used up. At that time, he could not defeat Liu Bang. However, Han Xin, the general of Liu Bang, swept through his own rear and couldn't afford to deal with Han Xin himself. Many princes who had been enfeoffed rebelled again. Xiang Yu wanted to pacify the rear early and also wanted to negotiate a truce with Liu Bang. In this way, the two sides soon reached an agreement, with the ancient canal gap 20 miles southeast of Xingyang as the boundary. The land on the east side of the ditch belongs to Chu Bawang, and the land on the west side of the ditch belongs to Hanwang Liu Bang (this is the origin of the later "Chu River Han boundary"). Xiang Yu also agreed to return Liu Bang's father, wife and children.
After the two sides negotiated a truce, Xiang Yu hurriedly led the troops to retreat to quell the war in his rear. Liu Bang also wanted to retreat. Zhang Liang and Chen Ping stopped him: "Why did the king retreat?" Liu bang said, "Xiang Yu and I have already negotiated a truce. Xiang Yu has already left. What am I doing here?"
Zhang Liang and Chen Ping said together: "We negotiated with Xiang Yu to save your father, wife and children. Now that your relatives are back, the goal has been achieved, just in time to fight against Xiang Yu again. Now Xiang Yu's army is exhausted, and there is no food and grass. When he retreats, we will chase after Xiang Yu from behind and will surely defeat him. Besides, many vassals who have been enfeoffed have surrendered to you, and you have occupied more than half of the country. As long as Xiang Yu is eliminated, you can become an emperor. How can this great opportunity be let go in vain? "
After listening to Zhang Liang and Chen Ping's advice, Liu Bang immediately changed his mind. On the one hand, he issued a notice to various governors, asking them to * * * attack Xiang Yu, while reorganizing the army and pursuing Xiang Yu's army.
In order to completely defeat Xiang Yu, Liu Bang accepted Zhang Liang's and Chen Ping's advice, made General Han Xin King of Qi, sealed Peng Yue, and ordered them to send troops to pursue Xiang Yu immediately. In this way, Han Xin all the way, Peng Yue all the way, Liu Bang led Ying Bu, the king of Huainan, as all the way, and the three-way army followed closely behind the ass of Xiang Yu's army. Although Xiang Yu's army was brave and good at fighting, it could not stay because of the lack of hay, so it beat while retreating. After thinking of his hometown Peng Cheng, he obtained hay, reorganized his military forces, and then fought a decisive battle with Liu Bang.
Xiang Yu's army finally retreated to Gaixia, far from Peng Cheng, but was trapped by Han Xin's plan of flying daggers. After Xiang Yu stationed his troops, he climbed to a hill by himself. Looking around, I saw that the Han army surrounded himself in all directions, and there were as many people as ants. At this time, Xiang Yu regretted not killing Liu Bang at the Hongmen banquet.
After dark, the encirclement of the Han soldiers shrank even smaller, and Zhang Liang thought of a plan to ask all the Han troops to sing the local folk songs of Chu. Xiang Yu's soldiers were all Chu people, and when they heard the folk songs of their hometown, they all cried and lost their morale. Many people deserted in the dark, and some ran to the Han military camp to surrender.
Xiang Yu was about to have a rest in the military camp when he suddenly heard Chu songs all over the mountains. He was shocked and said, "Where did so many Chu people come from?
Has Hanwang occupied all of Chu? ! At this time, the soldiers came to report: "Many soldiers opened the camp gate overnight and surrendered to Hanwang!" Xiang Yu felt that the tide was gone, sat in his tent in frustration and drank the wine.
Xiang Yu had a beautiful wife named Yu Ji. Seeing that Xiang Yu was so sad, Yu Ji accompanied him to tears and kept pouring wine for Xiang Yu. Xiang Yu looked at Yu Ji and thought about his current situation. He couldn't help singing while drinking: "If you pull up the mountain and make the world angry, you will never die. What can you do if you don't die?" I am strong enough to pull up mountains, and my heroic spirit is unparalleled in the world, but my luck is bad, and my ZhuiMa can't run fast. What should I do? Concubine, what will you do? After singing the song, Xiang Yu began to cry sadly, and concubine became even sadder. Suddenly, she pulled out her sword from Xiang Yu's waist and cut her throat with it. Xiang Yu wanted to rescue her, but it was too late to see concubine fall in her arms and die. Xiang Yu burst into tears and buried his concubine.
Early the next morning, Xiang Yu led his troops to break through and ran to the edge of the Huaihe River. Only one or two hundred people followed him, and the Han army chased Xiang Yu closely. Xiang Yu continued to escape and fled to Wujiang River (now in Hexian County, Anhui Province). The director of Wujiang River drove a boat to meet Xiang Yu and asked Xiang Yu to cross the river quickly. Xiang Yu said with a smile: "In those days, I started from Jiangdong and led 8,000 soldiers to cross the river. Now I am the only one left to go back. How can I have the face to meet my hometown in Jiangdong!" He handed the black-eared horse to Tingchang and asked Tingchang to cross the river. He dismounted and rushed into the Han army with his sword, left and right, and suffered many injuries. Finally, he committed suicide.
Xiang Yu was trapped on all sides in Jiulishan, Han Xin.
