Isatis indigotica has strong adaptability to climate and soil conditions. Cold and warm, but afraid of water damage. It can grow normally in the Yangtze River basin and vast areas in northern China.

Seeds germinate easily and germinate well in the range of 15c ~ 30c. The germination rate is generally above 80%, and the seed life is L ~ 2 years. The normal growth and development process must go through the low temperature stage in winter before it can blossom and bear seeds. Therefore, this characteristic is used in production, and spring sowing or summer sowing is adopted. In that year, leaves were picked and roots were dug, and the planting time was 5 ~ 7 months. If cultivated according to the normal growth period, it is only used for seed retention.

Isatis indigotica is a deep-rooted plant, which has strong adaptability, relaxed requirements for natural environment and soil, and is cold-resistant and warm-loving. It should be planted in sandy loam with deep, loose and fertile soil layer, avoiding low-lying land and disorderly roots, and paying attention to drainage in rainy season.
