The bark of Vicia elegans is brown, the branchlets are cylindrical, the stipules are lanceolate, the leaflets are hard papery, oblong-lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, and the base is obtuse.

Bracts are acicular-ovoid, shedding, bracteoles are ovoid, free from calyx, flowers are large and fragrant, and pedicels, calyx and inflorescence axis are covered with yellow-brown fluff.
