Niu Dali, alias pig's foot, lotus root, and golden bell root, is a Chinese medicine name, belonging to the genus Viburnum in Leguminosae. The bark of Vicia elegans is brown, the branchlets are cylindrical, the stipules are lanceolate, the leaflets are hard papery, oblong-lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, and the base is obtuse.

Bracts are acicular-ovoid, shedding, bracteoles are ovoid, free from calyx, flowers are large and fragrant, and pedicels, calyx and inflorescence axis are covered with yellow-brown fluff. The corolla is white, beige to reddish, the flag petal is hairless, the disk is tubular, the pods are linear, and the seeds are ovoid. It blooms from July to October and bears fruit in February of the following year.
