What is hand, foot and mouth disease in children?
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) in children is an eruptive disease in children. In recent two years, there has been a local epidemic outbreak in Southeast Asia such as Singapore, and it is also a common clinical disease in China, especially in kindergartens where children are relatively concentrated. It is not uncommon for children to have cross-infection due to mutual contact, so it is necessary to pay enough attention to it. Hand, foot and mouth disease in children mostly occurs in children under 4 years old. Most of them are caused by a virus called Coxsackie A 16, or Coxsackie A5 or Coxsackie A 10 virus. Parents will find that their children suddenly have a fever, refuse to eat or suddenly like to eat liquid food, and have small red rashes or blisters on their hands and feet. When they go to the hospital for examination, they find that children have small blisters and ulcers in their oral cavity, mostly located in the tongue, buccal mucosa and hard palate. The blood routine examination is a hemogram with increased lymphocytes, which is diagnosed as hand, foot and mouth disease in children by doctors. Clinically, the body temperature of this disease can generally drop to normal within 2 ~ 3 days; Rashes on hands and feet are often absorbed after 2 ~ 3 days, leaving no scab; Herpes and ulcers in the oral cavity can last for about 1 week. It is usually effective to give some antiviral drugs, such as Chinese patent medicines: Folium Isatidis oral liquid, antiviral oral liquid and Shuanghuanglian oral liquid; Western medicine: ribavirin tablets or oral liquid, all of which have good curative effect. For a small number of children who refuse to eat due to severe oral ulcer pain and are accompanied by high fever, drugs such as ribavirin, acyclovir and zedoary turmeric oil can be given intravenously; Oral ulcer can be treated locally with iodine glycerin, tin granule powder or watermelon frost spray. Because virus infection is easy to be complicated with bacterial infection, some antibiotics can be used for preventive treatment, but high-dose and high-grade antibiotics are not necessary. In the course of the disease, children should be given foods containing more vitamins, such as fruits and vegetables. If necessary, they can be given a juicy diet such as milk and juice, or a semi-juicy diet such as porridge and rotten noodles. It is not advisable to fast because of oral ulcers. For this disease, the main thing is prevention. For children with this disease, they should be isolated from their families and their parents should be advised to take them home before they can go to school for a week; In kindergartens where children are relatively concentrated, toys, tables and chairs used by children should be disinfected frequently, and classrooms and bedrooms used by children should also be ventilated and disinfected by ultraviolet rays. Hand, foot and mouth disease in children is a common disease in children. Parents should not be overly nervous and uneasy about it. It is the key to take children to the hospital for regular treatment and give them proper diet in time. Of course, you should pay attention to developing children's good hygiene habits in peacetime, such as washing your hands with soap after going out, touching toys, before and after meals, and trying to avoid children contacting other children who are already sick, which can help your children avoid the pain of the disease.
