Long summer, the seventh of the 24 solar terms, is celebrated on May 5-6 of the Gregorian calendar every year, when the bucket handle of the Big Dipper points to the southeast and the longitude of the sun reaches 45. "Summer" in long summer means "big", and "long summer" means that plants sown in spring have grown upright at this time.

Climatic characteristics of long summer: After the long summer solar term, the sunshine increased, the temperature gradually increased, the thunderstorm increased, and the crops entered a vigorous growth stage. "Long summer" is just a preview of the coming summer, and it doesn't mean "entering summer". Meteorology has strict standards for entering summer. If the daily average temperature in a place is stable above 22℃, long summer can be determined.
