The gallery is based on the latest publication by Zheng Guangmei, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, "The Classification and Distribution List of Birds in China" (third edition), with more than 80,000 images covering all 1,445 species of birds in China.
According to Duan Wenke, founder and chief moderator of China Bird Net and executive director of the China Wildlife Conservation Association, the gallery is one of the largest Chinese bird libraries with the largest number of pictures, and it has achieved precise and scientific categorization as well as convenient and easy-to-use retrieval. All the pictures in the gallery are taken by members of BirdNet, and the bird introduction information originates from the Chinese Bird Atlas (upper and lower volumes), which can be accessed by the general public at any time from the China Forestry Picture Library to browse through the Chinese bird gallery.
