Alaska pollack, also known as pollock and mingtai (English Theragra chalcogramma or Alaska pollack), is commonly known as минтай in Russian.

The most important thing for a real cod is to have a beard, and there is a clear line in the middle of the fish. The corresponding Alaska cod (cod) does not have these.
