Experimental principle of preparation of borneol and isoborneol
Camphor reduction reaction.

Borneol is a widespread secondary metabolite in nature and can be prepared by the reduction of camphor. However, borneol is easily oxidized into camphor, so sodium borohydride is often used to reduce camphor to prepare borneol in the laboratory. This method may produce two isomers of borneol, and one of them can be obtained by kinetic control, thus making it an irreversible reaction.
