Tangyuan is one of the representative snacks of Han nationality in China with a long history. Jiaozi originated in the Song Dynasty. When Zhou (now Ningbo) eats a new food, it uses black sesame, lard and sugar as raw materials. First, grind black sesame seeds into powder, then use lard, roll the sugar in the mixture one by one, and knead glutinous rice flour into a circle. When cooked, it tastes sweet and delicious.
Because this kind of dumplings will float and sink when cooked in a pot, it was originally called "Floating Zi Yuan" and later renamed Yuanxiao in some areas. Yuanxiao symbolizes family reunion. Eating Yuanxiao means happy New Year and good luck.
Due to the different food cultures in different regions of China, the varieties of glutinous rice balls are also different. In southern China, most people have the traditional custom of sitting together and eating glutinous rice balls on the morning of the Spring Festival.
