Life span of pigs
Pig is one of our most common mammals, which can be divided into three categories according to different habitats: wild boar, domestic pig and wild pig. Wild boar is easy to understand, which refers to Eurasian wild boar, while domestic pigs are domesticated from Eurasian wild boar, while wild pigs are different. It refers to the hybridization between domesticated domestic pigs and wild boar, or the re-evolution of domestic pigs in wild environment.
The life span of a pig varies in different environments. For example, the life span of a domestic pig often depends on when it was killed. However, if this factor is excluded, the average life span of a domestic pig is about 10 years old. During the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, a pig was saved in the ruins of the earthquake for 36 days, and it was awarded the title of "Strong Pig" in June this year1. According to experts' analysis, a pig of 14 years old is equivalent to a human pig of 100 years old, and the basis is the average life span of domestic pigs of about 10 years old.
Generally, the life span of animals raised artificially is longer than that of their wild ancestors. For example, in the wild environment, the average life span of tigers is between 10- 15 years old, but under artificial breeding, their life span is between 15-20 years old, which is increased by about 30%. However, wild boar is just the opposite to domestic pigs. Because domestic pigs usually pursue weight, under low activity, adequate or even excessive feeding, domestic pigs generally have obesity problems, which will affect their life span. Unlike wild boars, they need to spend 8- 10 hours a day constantly foraging, which is relatively "healthy", so the average life span of wild boars is about 15-20 years old.
Finally, it was a wild pig. Wild pigs are mainly concentrated in North America, especially in the United States. As early as 18 century, some immigrants from Europe brought local domestic pigs to the United States. However, due to the influence of local food culture, the popularity of pigs gradually declined, which caused many people to release domestic pigs into the wild. After the survival of the fittest, these domestic pigs have become wild again, and they have been flooded rapidly. At present, there are about 6 million "wild boar" in the United States, which causes at least 10 billion losses to the United States every year.
Wild pigs are similar to domestic pigs in some characteristics, such as body shape, because they are re-wild, but they are relatively healthy compared with domestic pigs because they live in the wild and have a lot of activities. Therefore, the average life span of wild pigs is between domestic pigs and wild boars, with an average of about 15 years.
Therefore, among the three kinds of pigs, the average life expectancy of domestic pigs is the shortest, only about 10 years old, followed by wild pigs (about 15 years old) and wild boar (15-20 years old).
How big can pigs grow all the time?
In the above, we divide pigs into three categories. These three categories have different life spans for various reasons, and any animal's life span will inevitably be shortened as long as it is not restrained. Therefore, the weight of domestic pigs is much heavier than that of wild boars, and the largest weight of wild pigs, as an "intermediate product", is between the largest domestic pigs and wild boars. Let's take a look at the three heaviest pigs.
First: the king of domestic pigs
Among all pigs, the average weight of domestic pigs is the heaviest, because only their food is adequately guaranteed and their activity is small, that is, the "eat, sleep and eat" mode. In this mode, many "pig kings" have also been born. In Liaoning Agricultural Exhibition Hall, there is a specimen of a pig. It can be made into a specimen because before 2004, it was the heaviest domestic pig in the world, with a body length of 2.5 meters and a waist circumference of 2.23 meters. It was 14.4 cm long just for its tusks, and its weight reached an unprecedented 900 kg, making it the king of pigs at that time.
By 20 12, the record held by Liaoning Pig King was broken. This pig was born in Zhangkeng Village in April 2003, and it grew to 250 kilograms in just one year. By the end of the second year, this pig actually grew to more than 400 kilograms. In 2007, the 4-year-old pig has grown to nearly 1000 kg. Many old people in the village said: This pig can grow so big, and it is not alien and cannot be eaten. After that, the villagers in the village jointly bought the pigs and sent them to Lianfeng Temple, and hired people to feed them specially. By 20 12, the 9-year-old "Pig King" died. At the time of his death, his weight reached 1 100 kg, his length was 2.45 meters, and his height 1.25 meters. At this point, the "king of pigs" was born. So far, no pig can weigh more than it.
02 wild pig king
In June 2007, an American teenager aged1/kloc-0 became famous overnight because he killed a "wild boar" with a 50-caliber revolver. The weight of this "wild boar" is between 450 and 500 kilograms. According to the boy, he first hit the wild boar with a pistol many times, and then the wild boar fled. After searching for 3 hours, the boy found the wild boar again. This time, he completely sent the wild boar away at close range. After that, the boy called his father and carried the body of the wild boar away with a forklift. After measurement, the body length of this "wild boar" was 2.74 meters and the weight was 48 1 kg. This achievement broke the record of hunting wild boar in the United States, and no one has broken it so far.
Of course, the reason why this "wild boar" should be quoted is because it is actually the first pig and has its own name "Fred". It was raised by a farmer and sold to a slaughterhouse, but because of its huge size, it was temporarily placed in a forest park, thus becoming wild.
03 wild boar
Broadly speaking, wild boar is the general name of all wild species under the family Porcidae. The common wild boars are Eurasian wild boar (genus Porcine) and African wild boar (genus African wild boar), and these two wild boars have many different subspecies differentiation, and there are great differences in body shape between different subspecies. Under normal circumstances, the weight of wild boar is around150kg, and those over 200kg belong to large individuals.
Judging from the current hunting records, the world's largest wild boar comes from the Russian Far East, and its weight is 345 kg. However, a few years ago, it was reported in Russia that hunters killed a 535 kg wild boar, but there was no measured data at that time, so it was difficult to draw a conclusion. However, from the pictures reported at that time, this wild boar should be much bigger than the 345 kg one.
summary
The life span of pigs is greatly influenced by the environment. On the whole, the life span of wild boar is longer than that of domestic pigs, but the longer the life span, the bigger the body size, because there are also factors such as living environment and food abundance. According to the existing records, the largest pig in the world is a domestic pig with a weight of 1 100 kg, followed by wild pigs with a weight of 48/.
