How to treat hyperacidity?

Hyperacidity refers to a state in which the acidity of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice is high and gastric secretion is increased. The acidity and secretion of gastric juice vary from person to person and also from age to person. Excessive gastric acidity cannot be said to be a disease. It is considered a disease only when symptoms appear.

Excessive gastric acidity is often caused by physical factors. In addition, the gastrin hormone secreted near the pylorus of the stomach can promote the secretion of hydrochloric acid. For this reason, the number and function of gastrin-secreting cells also have a great influence on the acidity of gastric juice. That is, hyperacidity in the stomach is caused by two factors: vagal nerve excitement and gastrin hypersecretion.

Hyperacidity can be seen in most duodenal ulcers. In gastric ulcers, the acidity and secretion of gastric juice are not very high, or even low.

Symptoms of hyperacidity include:

Heartburn

Heartburn and acid reflux have been described since ancient times. If this symptom occurs, it can be considered evidence of hyperacidity. However, its importance has decreased since it also occurs in people with low stomach acidity.

Numbness in the mouth

When acidic gastric juice rises through the esophagus and causes numbness in the oral mucosa and numbness of the tongue, it can be said that the acidity of the gastric juice is high. However, when very bitter liquid flows back into the mouth, it is bile rather than gastric juice, so it has nothing to do with the acidity of the gastric juice.

Birching

The state in which the gas in the stomach flows back into the mouth through the esophagus is called belching. A burning-like sensation behind the sternum and in the pit of the heart is called heartburn. These symptoms are indeed likely to occur when there is too much gastric acid, but they can also occur when the acidity of gastric juice is low or the secretion is low.

Pain

As the acidity of gastric juice increases and the secretion increases, gastric tension and hyperactivity are often caused, which often causes pain. Characteristically, the pain occurs especially on an empty stomach. In addition, when gastric juice with high acidity refluxes and causes esophagitis, sometimes you will feel pain in the entire chest above the heart; it gets better with age. The symptoms of hyperchlorhydria are not fixed but come and go. It is especially aggravated by overeating, mental stress, insomnia, and overwork. In addition, symptoms are more severe in youth and gradually improve with age.

After hyperacidity occurs, you should check whether there are gastritis or ulcers and other diseases, and treat them in time! You should also pay attention to your daily diet and life:

(1) Develop good eating habits, eat regularly, eat small meals frequently, and eat soft foods that are easy to digest. Avoid eating raw, cold, hard, rough, greasy, and fiber-rich foods. Avoid overeating.

(2) Chew carefully and slowly when eating, which will help digestion and absorption, thereby reducing the burden on the stomach.

(3) Avoid drinking strong tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.; eat less foods that are prone to flatulence, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, boiled soybeans, etc. Quit smoking and avoid eating spicy and irritating foods. Avoid long-term consumption of overheated, sour and smoked foods. At the same time, long-term use of drugs that are irritating to the gastric mucosa, especially aspirin, phenylbutazone, indomethacin, and prednisone, should be avoided.

(4) Pay attention to the balance between work and rest, maintain a regular life, maintain an optimistic and happy mood, and avoid tension, anxiety, and depression.

Employees should develop regular eating habits and avoid overeating. You can drink milk when pain occurs on an empty stomach. Don't drink coffee, black tea, or green tea. Avoid mental fatigue and insomnia, and keep your mind and body quiet.
