The horse mackerel is mainly found in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea Basin, mostly in shallow estuaries.
There are many common names for the Mabu fish, which is also known as the Big Stick Fish because of its slightly cylindrical shape, and the Needle Liang Fish because of its sharp, needle-shaped mouth. This thin and long fish is both a sea fish and a river fish, which lives at the confluence of salty and fresh water and is a fish with a unique flavor. Because of its relatively large production, it often makes its way onto people's dinner tables, and is a good meal, whether fried, grilled or boiled.
The horseback fish is slender, with a body length of 17 to 24 centimeters. The upper jaw is triangular in shape, equal in length and width, and the lower jaw is extended into a rostrum.
The teeth are small, the body is covered with fine rounded scales, and there is a wider longitudinal band of emerald green color on the dorsal midline. The dorsal and anal fins are opposite each other, both located at the back of the body, the pectoral fins are high and yellow in color, and the caudal fin is forked and light green in color, with the lower lobe slightly longer than the upper lobe.
