Gannan is connected to Aba Prefecture in Sichuan in the south, Huangnan Prefecture and Guoluo Prefecture in Qinghai in the southwest, Longnan City, Dingxi City and Linxia Prefecture in the east and north, and has jurisdiction over seven counties and one city, namely Lintan, Zhuoni, Diebu, Zhouqu, Xiahe, Maqu and Luqu. The total area is 45,000 square kilometers (2021.1.30) and the total population (registered population) is 748,200 (at the end of 2022).

Labuleng Temple is a temple of the Yellow Sect and the highest-ranking institution of learning among Tibetan temples in Gannan. It is also widely respected in the world and has the most complete teaching system of Tibetan Buddhism in China. There used to be as many as 108 sub-temples in Labrang Temple, which has a history of more than 300 years. Temple buildings are large in scale and famous. Its overall architecture is grand, solemn and elegant, with a majestic appearance, orderly interior, quiet exterior and gorgeous interior.

Gongba Temple is located in the north of Yugu Village, Zitan Township, Zhuoni, on the north bank of Taohe River. The main colors of the temple are red, yellow and white. The architectural design is elegant and magnificent, which is different from other Tibetan Buddhist temples. Gongba Temple is surrounded by the clear Cheba River, and the mountains on both sides seem to hold Gongba Temple in their hands.
