Because of its special status, Nanjing belongs to Suzhou, one of the capital cities and the governor of South Zhili. In other words, during the Ming Dynasty, Suzhou was the capital of Nanzhili. This situation continued until the Qing Dynasty entered the customs, when Beijing was determined as the capital and Nanzhili was renamed jiangnan province.
