What are the main causes of varicose veins?
Varicose veins are caused by slow venous return, weak venous wall and impaired valve function, which leads to curved and expanded veins in a tongue shape. Generally, varicose veins of lower limbs are more common, and occasionally patients will have varicose veins of upper limbs, and even some patients will have varicose veins of abdominal wall. Varicose veins of limbs are mostly caused by severe venous reflux, valve injury and severe dilatation caused by long-term sedentary standing, while varicose veins of abdominal wall are mostly caused by patients with ascites due to cirrhosis, portal vein reflux or inferior vena cava reflux disorder. Therefore, the causes of varicose veins of limbs and varicose veins of abdominal wall are different, and the reasons are quite different to show the difference.
