Jiayuguan is located at the westernmost pass of Hexi Corridor in western Gansu Province (Hexi Corridor continues to extend westward). The western part of Gansu is a desert area, and the Hexi Corridor is sandwiched between the towering Qilian Mountain and Beishan Mountain (including Mazong Mountain, Heli Mountain and Longshou Mountain), with a length of about 1000 km from east to west.
An ancient road runs through the Gobi and alluvial plains at the foot of Qilian Mountain, and the ancient "Silk Road" is here.
The road is difficult and dangerous. At the pass of Jiayu Mountain, the narrow valley runs through the mountain and the dangerous slope forces the road. Jiayuguan is here, and the situation is very dangerous. Suzhou (now Jiuquan) is in the east and Anxi is in the west, which is the link between Chang 'an, Kyoto and the western regions.
Jiayuguan was built in the fifth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1372). It consists of inner city, outer city, Luocheng, Wengcheng, moat and the Great Wall on the north and south wings, with a total length of about 60 kilometers.
The Great Wall is dotted with towers, piers and castles, which are composed of three lines of defense: inner city, outer city and moat, overlapping and defending, forming a defense system of five miles, one embarrassing, ten miles, one pier, three miles, one fort and one hundred miles.
Jiayuguan is a world cultural heritage, a national AAAAA tourist attraction, a national key cultural relic protection unit and a national patriotic education demonstration base.
The main scenic spots are Jiayuguan Guancheng, Hanging Wall, First Pier of the Great Wall, Wei and Jin Tombs, Stone Carvings in Montenegro, Mulan City, July 1st Glacier and Gliding Base.
