The scientific name of the group shrimp: New Penaeus knoutensis

Common names: flower shrimp, claw shrimp, and base shrimp

Although the above scientific names and common names make us confused , but the name "Jiwei Shrimp" is well-known in the world! "Jiwei" is a dam system used in Guangdong to prevent seawater invasion. The shrimps cultured in Jiwei are collectively called Jiwei shrimp. Because there are currently more New Penaeus prawns being cultured in Guangdong, the authentic shrimp we often refer to now generally refers to New Penaeus prawns.

New Penaeus knoutensis (Penaeus vannamei) is easy to be confused with Penaeus vannamei (white shrimp). The first thing to distinguish them is their body size. New Penaeus knoutensis is relatively small, usually ten to fifteen centimeters. It's about a circle smaller than a prawn. Next, look at the legs. The tips of the legs of the shrimp are a little red; finally, you have to look at the thorn (front sword) on the shrimp's head. Different from the shrimp, the sword of the shrimp is only serrated on the upper side and smooth on the lower side. This is also the origin of its scientific name - the sword is edged on both sides, and the knife is only edged on one side, so it is called the new shrimp.

Group shrimps have a very strong vitality and will basically not die when they are fished from the shrimp pond to be sold in the market, so they sell relatively well.
