Plumeria, also known as Burmese gardenia, yolk flower, big season flower, etc. It is a deciduous shrub or small tree of the genus Plumeria of Apocynaceae. It is listed as one of the "five trees and six flowers" by Buddhist temples, and is widely planted in Xishuangbanna, China and some countries in Southeast Asia, with high ornamental value. The whole tree looks swaying, symmetrical and natural, and beautiful. Let's take a look at how to raise potted plumeria!
Growth habit of frangipani
Plumeria is a positive tree species, which likes high temperature, humid and sunny environment, but it can also grow in semi-shady environment, but in shady environment, the branches grow in vain, and few flowers or long leaves do not bloom. The soil suitable for frangipani planting is deep, fertile, good water permeability and rich in organic matter. Drought resistance, waterlogging resistance and stress resistance are good, but drought is not conducive to plant development, growth is serious, and waterlogging is easy to cause root rot. Cold tolerance is poor, the most suitable temperature for growth is 20 ~ 26℃, and it is vulnerable to freezing injury when it is lower than 8℃ for a long time during wintering. In the vast towns south of the Tropic of Cancer in China, it is generally safe to overwinter in the open field, and winter is only suitable for potted plants in Central China and North China to overwinter in the greenhouse.
Propagation method of frangipani
1. Cutting: The cutting of frangipani is easy to survive, and it is mainly propagated by cutting. Cutting can be carried out all year round in tropical and subtropical areas suitable for open cultivation. Select 1 ~ 2-year-old stout branches, cut branches 20 ~ 30 cm long from the base of the branches, let the white milk flowing out of the cut mouth dry in the shade, put it in a cool and ventilated place for 2 ~ 3 days, and then cut into culture soil, and take root in 30 ~ 35 days.
2. Sowing: Plumeria does not bear much fruit, but most varieties planted in the open air can also collect a small amount of seeds. The optimum temperature for seed germination is 65438 08 ~ 24℃, and it is usually sown with harvest. Sow evenly every 5 ~ 6 cm, and then cover with a thin layer of sand or coconut bran. Sprinkle a proper amount of water to keep the substrate moist. Generally, it germinates in 8 ~ 12 days in spring and about 5 days in summer. After that, it will be managed generally and kept moist, but the seedbed should not be waterlogged.
Through our introduction, I believe everyone has a deeper understanding of the cultivation methods of frangipani bonsai.
