What does the Winter Solstice 99 Song mean?
"Nine-Nine Songs on Winter Solstice", also known as "Counting Nine Songs", is mainly popular in northern China, because the climate in the south is not as cold as that in the north, and "Nine-Nine Songs" is mainly aimed at the "winter formula" in cold seasons.

"Jiujiuge" is also called "Counting Jiuge", and the full text is as follows:

Don't shoot in 1929; Walk on the ice in 3949; 5969, see the willows along the river; Seven or nine rivers open and eight or nine geese come; 99 plus 19, plowing cattle everywhere.

"Counting nine" means counting from the winter solstice to nine, which is a "nine" and is called "one nine"; Then continue to count, and count to nine again. This is the second "nine", which is called "29". And so on, count to "99", that is, count to the ninth "9", thus counting 99 8 1 day.

"Don't shoot" in "Jiujiu Song" means that the weather is suddenly cold and a little uncomfortable. Pay attention to keep warm, especially put your hands in your pockets to keep warm. Although it is said here that "don't do it", don't let your hands freeze. In fact, it means that the weather is suddenly cold, and you should do a good job in cold prevention.

"Walking on the ice" indicates that it is already frozen thick and thick enough to leave. At the same time, this sentence also tells people that after a period of adaptation, they should be able to resist the cold and go outside to exercise, such as doing ice sports.

"Looking at the willows along the river" means that spring is already brewing, and the willows are quietly sprouting, just waiting for the arrival of "beginning of spring". At this time, people can go out and see the rare sight of "spring buds sprouting".

"August 9 geese come" means that migratory birds and geese began to fly from the south to the north. At this time, the pace of spring is closer.

"Nine-nine plus one-nine" means counting nine after the winter solstice, and then adding one-nine, so it's 90 days. 90 days after the winter solstice, it has reached the eve of Tomb-Sweeping Day. When winter goes and spring comes, farmers will be busy with spring ploughing, so it is said that "plowing cattle everywhere".

So, why did the custom of "counting nine" come into being on the winter solstice?

The "number nine" was formed in the Song Dynasty. There are two reasons for its formation.

The first reason: because winter is long and cold, people are looking forward to the early winter in order to survive this long winter night. And counting is a good way to "stay through the winter". Counting one or nine means going further from spring.

The second reason: in order to adapt to the seasonal climate change, we have formulated a regular formula that can be followed. People discovered the climate law through long-term observation, and formulated the 24 solar terms. Similarly, people discovered the evolution law of the cold season through the observation and study of winter, so they formulated the "Jiujiu Song" and determined some things with regularity that people followed, such as "don't shoot", "walk on the ice" and "watch the willows along the river", which were all different coping methods for different time periods.

Therefore, it can be said that "Jiujiu Song" is the crystallization of the wisdom of the working people. Because it contains certain truth, it is still circulating among the people.
