Emei Mountain has a long history of tea production, which began in the Tang Dynasty. Meizhou was listed as a tea-producing county in the music history of the Song Dynasty, The Jade Ring of Taiping. In the Song Dynasty, Lu You once wrote a poem praising Emei tea, saying, "The snow buds are close to Emei, but the red capsules are not diminished." The poet said that the snow buds produced in Emei Mountain (that is, white bud tea, a famous tea in Sichuan in the past) can be comparable to the ancient bamboo and purple bamboo shoots produced in Huzhou. Bamboo leaf green tea is developed on the basis of summarizing the long-term cultivation and tea-making skills of monks in Wannian Temple of Emei Mountain. Mass production began in the 1960s. 1985 won the gold medal in the 24th World Quality Food Appraisal Conference held in Lisbon. 1986 and 1990 were rated as national famous teas in Guangzhou and Xinyang, Henan respectively. Now tea has been exported to Japan, the United States and other countries and regions.
