There are two kinds of folk sayings about the origin of the name Goubuli steamed stuffed bun.

The first statement. At that time, there was a farmer in the suburbs of Tianjin. At the age of forty, he was happy with his son, and he named it "Dog Son" for peace. When the dog was fourteen years old, he came to Tianjin to learn his craft and worked as a waiter in a steamed food shop. Because of his ingenuity and diligence, the dog learned a good job. Later, the dog was not willing to rely on others, so he set up a steamed stuffed bun stall himself. He invented the technology of water stuffing and half-baked flour, and made the dumplings soft, delicious and not greasy. The appearance of steamed buns is like a blooming white chrysanthemum, with unique color, fragrance, taste and shape, which attracted people from miles away to eat steamed buns. The business was very prosperous, and the dog was too busy to talk. People said, "The dog sells steamed buns and ignores people." So for a long time, people called him a dog.

The second statement. A 14-year-old boy named Guiguiyou came to Tianjin from his hometown in Yangcun, Wuqing County, and became a waiter in the Liu steamed food shop. This shop specializes in assorted steamed food and meat buns, and its customers are mostly boatmen, trackers and small traders who travel to and from the canal pier. Gao Gui specializes in making steamed buns in the store. Because he had a strong personality in his childhood, his parents gave him a nickname "Goubuli". Other people's small hearts, made buns delicious, sold quickly, praised by people. When he was 16 or 17 years old, he used the money he had saved to open a steamed bun shop nearby. People used to call him "Goubuli" by his nickname, and over time, he called his steamed buns "Goubuli".

At that time, Yuan Shikai, the governor of Zhilu, ate Goubuli steamed stuffed bun and repeatedly exclaimed, and then went to Beijing to enter the palace to dedicate the steamed stuffed bun to Empress Dowager Cixi. The queen mother, Lafayette, tasted the steamed stuffed bun and praised it: "Wild animals in the mountains and geese in the clouds, cattle and sheep in the hinterland are fresh at the bottom of the sea, which is not as good as the dog ignoring the fragrance and the longevity of food."
