How did I become a manager?

In one of my articles, I mentioned that I became a manager for a year and a half. Some people wondered or questioned how I became a manager, and said not to simply answer that it was only because of hard work. Of course, it's not just because of hard work. A person who only works hard is like an old ox, and he can only work hard under the whip of others forever. Just as I was summing up how to be a manager, I was lucky enough to see the book "Horizontal Leadership", which happened to be about what you should do to be a manager when you were not a manager, and gave me a lot of inspiration, so I applied this book to write down my experience.

Horizontal leadership, in fact, is about how you can influence everyone and lead them to finish their work efficiently among colleagues. However, cooperation is very difficult. This book tells us that we should do it from three aspects: cultivating personal skills, defining goals and influencing others.

Training personal skills:

1 When you are not a manager, please keep learning. Without excellent professional knowledge and skills, you can't be a good leader.

Anyone who has seen nirvana in fire knows how Xiao Jingyan ascended the throne. Mei Changsu's advice to him is to keep a low profile and grow stronger. It is also applicable in the workplace.

This study includes knowledge accumulation and skill improvement. Professional knowledge is your trump card, and if you don't have goods in your stomach, it's called making up for it. Skills are proof of your ability. Imagine that when you work alone, you don't have any rules, good habits and self-discipline. Then when you are given a team, can you take it well?

2. Dare to accept greater challenges.

When I first joined the company, my department was experiencing a turmoil. First, the department manager left, and then two old employees left one after another. Both of them left for the same reason, shortly after the superior decided to let them replace the manager. Because they were busy with the handover of customers and the training of new employees, they were in a hurry and finally decided that they could not take on this important task, so they resigned. Perhaps they are used to the days of "doing their own thing", and when they are asked to manage a team, they feel that they have disrupted their life order. For the next year, the general manager replaced our department manager. One day, she talked to me and said that I had been working for more than a year, and she had something to do herself. She asked me how I was a manager, so I agreed and did it now.

It was hard at first, but I came over. What I want to say is that when you meet an opportunity, you must bravely seize it and work hard to do it well. Because opportunities are really rare, if you miss them, you may never wait. Under external pressure, people sometimes show great abilities in generate, which is the process of forcing you to grow up. So, don't think too much. If it's a good opportunity, take it, and then just do it and challenge yourself.

3. Observe your leaders and colleagues more and pay attention to the development trend of the company.

If you don't care about the company at all, then it's definitely not your turn to have any good things in the company, just like if you invest time in something, you will certainly gain something in that area. Observe the leader, so that you can understand the mind of the leader, stand on the same front with the leader, he will appreciate you, and naturally give you more opportunities; Observe your colleagues more, because you need to know what kind of person he is, whether he will be your friend or your enemy in the future, and know yourself and win every battle; Pay more attention to the company. With the development of the company, you can arm yourself with the help of the company. The company provides a platform and is your place to use. Don't let the company make a new policy, you turn a deaf ear and actively follow the company's footsteps to find more opportunities.

4, don't miss any opportunity to show, especially to do a good job in the leadership to explain your affairs and save the red star.

What I mean by performance is not publicity, but when you can't create opportunities, seize every opportunity to brush your face and impress the leaders.

For example, our company has several morning meetings every week, and each department takes turns to speak. The speakers need to prepare lecture content and PPT. Old employees get bored when they talk too many times, and they are more willing to let new employees talk. The first time I talked about the morning meeting was three months after I joined the company. Of course, I won't give up this kind of opportunity. At that time, I was lacking in all aspects, and I didn't understand my professional knowledge thoroughly. Naturally, I couldn't tell why. So, I found some pictures of my baby's expression on the Internet. Each picture represents a stage and runs through it, sharing my feelings about my work since I joined the company for three months. That morning meeting was well received unexpectedly. Everyone listened to my speech in laughter, with cases and gratitude to my colleagues, which left a good impression on everyone. Until now, as long as it is my morning meeting, I will try my best to talk about something useful instead of reading textbooks on it. Also because of the morning meeting, everyone said that my Mandarin was good. I presided over Weiya at the annual meeting half a year later and won a place among my colleagues.

Every time you behave in front of everyone, it is like a child in kindergarten. If you behave well, the leader will give you a red star in your heart. If you save more, your good luck will come.

5. Please don't dress too casually in the workplace.

This article is not really a personal skill, but I still want to mention it. If you want to be a manager, you should always demand yourself according to the manager's standards. The first impression you give is often very important. The manager of our company will take new employees to observe and study when he goes out. Why will the manager take you when there are so many new employees? If you dress appropriately and generously, which makes people feel professional and brings honor to the company's image, I think the manager will also be happy.

Clear objectives:

6. When I was not a manager, my daily work goal was to be a manager.

There is a small question in the goal arrangement in the book: When you accept a work task, do you "do it for what" or "do it for what"? You have to be clear: because it is the past tense, for the future tense.

You may think my goal is too naked, but you should have your own development direction in the workplace. The next stage of your work as an ordinary employee is to be a manager, which will inspire you to make some changes. This is also a psychological hint that will guide you in this direction.

I said that what I did was to be a manager, so I wouldn't care about many trivial things. For example, I worked as a customer for half a year, which was particularly hard and didn't get a commission. At that time, I was angry for a long time because I felt unfair, but I clearly knew what valuable experience being a customer could bring me, which would make me one step closer to becoming a manager, so I persisted.

We may make some sacrifices for the goal, but without the goal, you will work just because you want to finish the work, and you will naturally get little.

How to influence others:

7. When there is a problem at work, your attitude determines your position.

Please think about it. When there are problems at work, do colleagues generally react as follows: ① Playing the ostrich and turning a blind eye is totally irrelevant; 2 knowing that there is a problem, I immediately shirk to find the reason and clean myself up; 3 blame each other and blame each other for not doing well, endless quarrels; There are well-intentioned people who want to help solve the problem, but they are said to be nosy, excluded and thankless.

None of the above four points can solve the problem. Now, "Horizontal Leadership" gives the fifth method: you bravely stand up and take the initiative to take some responsibilities, without targeting anyone or blaming the responsibility on any party, but analyze the crux of the problem and bring everyone together to think and discuss, and finally find a solution.

One of my colleagues was canceled by a customer. He looked indifferent. I asked him why he canceled the contract. He found various objective reasons, such as being competed at a low price by his peers. I blurted out, have you ever thought that there is something wrong with your own service? After all, you have been an old customer for many years. As a result, I was treated coldly by my colleagues and thought I was meddling.

In fact, I am also kind, not malicious, and I am joking, but my colleagues think that I am accusing him and questioning his ability. In fact, I made a serious mistake in this matter, that is, I gave him a condescending feeling, and the correct way should undoubtedly be the fifth one. Let's discuss with colleagues in a friendly tone how to improve our service quality and retain this customer under the severe economic situation. We should find practical solutions instead of complaining about each other's faults.

I believe that in this process, my colleagues will definitely give me gratitude, and I have successfully influenced my colleagues. In the long run, the position in the team will be different.

8. Learn to be a man and get along with others. Being a man is more important than doing things.

The book "Horizontal Leadership" actually reveals the wisdom of getting along with others, how to get along with colleagues skillfully, how to stand out in the team, and how to not only be yourself but also let others do well. Many people ask the truth about how to be a man, and many people give advice. In fact, what they give is a kind of thinking, and we still have to understand it ourselves.

I've written so much, many of which are the little points mentioned in the book "Horizontal Leadership", but it has given me deep reflection. I can't share every point with you, but I can only watch it myself after work.

Finally, end with a sentence in the book: those who dare to stand up are leaders.
