Appreciation of Dongpo by Su Shi
Dongpo is a seven-character stanza written by Su Shi, a writer of the Northern Song Dynasty. This poem is a small scene of ordinary life on the moonlit night with a walking stick strolling in the uneven rocky hills of Dongpo for fun, showing the poet's secluded and noble nature of mind and fulfillment of danger as the attitude of life.

This poem was written in the sixth year of Emperor Shenzong's reign. In spite of the political situation and difficult living conditions, Su Shi was able to remain calm, maintain his love of life, and dare to challenge life, maintaining his perseverance in spite of difficulties.

Dongpo is not a scenic spot, but for the author, it is a place of life infused with hard work and deep feelings. The poem begins by placing Dongpo in a clear landscape. Secluded slopes, a day of moonlight, is already attractive, but also the bright moonlight after the rain, through the dustless blue sky, sprinkled in the bath of snow a new, beads of water on the crystalline things, which is a realm of clarity. The author treats the setbacks in his career, never holds this cheerful and optimistic, spirited attitude, never discouraged and disillusioned. This spirit is able to give people encouragement and strength. Small poem so touching, just because the poet will be this valuable spirit and objective scenery into one, constitute a realm of integration, sentence is the words of the scene, and no sentence is not the words of feelings, feelings in the scene, consigning far-reaching, chewable.
