Lanzhou specialty-seed melon
Seed melon, also known as melon-beating, is a kind of edible seed-picking, with round and angular stems and vigorous growth, but with slender stems and strong branching. The fruit is spherical, with dark green or light green skin and double stripes of hidden flowers. The flesh is yellowish white or reddish, and the taste is not good. The seeds are oblate, large or extremely large, with black or black-and-yellow seed coat, and the 1000-grain weight is about 138g, and the fat kernel is for frying. Seed melon likes temperature, bears drought and is afraid of humidity, so it is most suitable to plant it in loose and fertile sandy loam with good drainage. High-yield fields produce more than 2 250kg/hm2 of melon seeds, and the general yield is around 1 200kg/hm2. Like watermelon cultivation, seed melon can't be planted year after year, and the disease of continuous cropping melon is serious, which affects the yield. Generally, it takes 3 years to rotate with rice, and 5 years to rotate with other melon crops. There are two kinds of preservation: 1. Hanging water cellar or keeping in basement cellar. 2. Cold storage can also be preserved by this small environment disinfection and sterilization method.
