There are 220 species of Camellia, and 195 species are native to my country. The camellias currently available for viewing mainly include 4 varieties: East China Camellia, Yunnan Camellia, Golden Camellia and Camellia sasanqua. According to petal shape, number and arrangement, they are divided into: Single valve type, double valve type, double valve type. Common varieties of camellia are: White tea: also known as Qianye white, the stamens are petaled, with 5 to 6 whorls of stems, and the flowers are white, flat and wrinkle-free.

Assorted brocades: There are white stripes between the pink flowers, or there are red stripes on the white.

Fish-blood red: The flower is deep red with white spots on 1 to 2 outer petals.

Black Camellia: Also known as Yang Guifei, the outer petals are wide and flat, and the inner petals are finely divided and pink.

Little Five Star: The flower shape is like a black camellia, and the peach flower has white spots.

Magnolia Camellia: petals are narrow, semi-erect, double, rose red.

Amaryllis: the flower is shaped like a black camellia and is vermilion red.

Venus: The flower is single-petaled, dark red, with an iron-black calyx and hairs on it. The flowering period lasts for 4 months and is cold-resistant.

Little Taohong: The flowers are single-petaled and pink in color, with an early and long flowering period (November to April of the following year), and are relatively cold-resistant.

Simian Brocade: The flowers are red, the petals are in the shape of a curling heart, and they are arranged in 4 groups, hence the name.

The newly bred camellia varieties include Jinhua’s Huameihong, Yudan, Huafuding, and Yuanyangfengguan; Sichuan’s Revolutionary Flag, Huafengwei, Bailing, Zhaoxia, Pink Lotus, Guanghonour, and Fangting Spring, red rolling leaves, beauty slices; Fujian's five colors, colorful, and fragrant; Hunan's red and purple jade plates; Shanghai's Red Sea Inner Orb, Yellow Sea Inner Orb, and sandblasting miscellaneous scenery; Wuxi's gold-sprinkled orb and Western dots Snow; Nantong’s Eighteen Bachelors and Raw Sand Star Anise; Hangzhou’s Red Crown and Danzhi Sun; Wenzhou’s Sailuoyang, Pink Shijingjing, Green Pearl Ball, and Flower Hibiscus.

Foreign camellia varieties have been gradually introduced into our country, mainly including peony, white swan, yellow hydrangea, white crown, complex color Helen, Hawaii, Magic City, Margaret, Phnom Penh Kona, New Miss Charleston, Marbled Black Onyx, etc., and recent new varieties include Black Magic, Tianjiao, Hot Bubble, Cloud-spotted Marshal and Xiuya White Teeth.
