The founder, Ms. Zang Kin Wo, originally started out selling dumplings from a stall by the Wan Chai Pier in Hong Kong. Started in 1978 in Hong Kong, Wan Chai Wharf is a well-known brand of frozen food, which started by making dumplings and was acquired by General Mills in 1997.

Wan Chai Wharf's home-made dumplings have captured 10% of Hong Kong's fresh dumplings market and 30% of the frozen dumplings market, and after partnering with U.S. General Mills in 1997, Wan Chai Wharf Dumplings went on to set up production bases in Shanghai and Guangzhou, and launched the hand-wrapped "Wan Chai Wharf Wan Chai Wharf Dumplings is now a major player in the market. Today Wan Chai Pier dumplings and occupy half of the frozen food market in South China, and also reached more than 20% of the market share in Beijing.
