Also known as Sannaiko ("Over the Sea"), Sanlai ("Essentials of Product Collection"), Sanju ("Notes on Southern Guangdong"), Shajiang ("Lingnan Medicine Collection"), Sannai, Mountain Spicy ("Compendium")
The source medicine is the dried rhizome of Kaempferia galangaL., a plant in the Zingiberaceae family. Excavate in winter, wash, remove fibrous roots, slice and dry in the sun.
Original form: Perennial herb, rhizome is lumpy, solitary or clustered, light green,
aromatic; roots grow from the rhizome, thick and numerous. There are usually 2 leaves, facing each other, almost sessile, lying flat on the ground, spreading horizontally, thin, round or broadly ovate. It blooms from August to September. Spike-like flowers grow from between two leaves. There are 4 to 12 flowers, white, blooming in the morning and noon, fragrant, and the flower tube is slender. The fruit is a capsule.
Characteristics: This product is mostly round or nearly round transverse slices, with a diameter of 1 to 2 cm and a thickness of 0.3 to 0.5 cm. The outer skin is light brown or yellowish brown, wrinkled, and some have root marks or remaining fibrous roots; the cut surface is off-white, pink, and often bulging. It is brittle and easy to break. The aroma is unique and the taste is spicy.
Identification (1) The powder of this product is yellowish white. There are many starch granules, mainly single granules, which are round, oval or triangular. Most of them are flat, with a diameter of 5-30 μm, and the umbilical point and layer pattern are not obvious. The oil cells are round or oval in shape, with a diameter of 40 to 130 μm, and thin walls. The cell cavity contains light yellow-green or light purple-red oil droplets. Threaded conduit diameter is 18~37μm. The pigment block is irregular in shape, yellow or
yellow-brown. (2) Take 0.25g of this product powder, add 5ml of methanol, ultrasonicate for 10 minutes, filter, and the filtrate is used as the test solution. Take another reference substance of ethyl p-methoxycinnamate, add methanol to make a solution containing 5mg per 1ml, and use it as the reference solution. According to the thin layer chromatography (Appendix VI B) test, draw 2 μl of each of the above two solutions, place them on the same silica gel GF254 thin layer plate, use n-hexane-ethyl acetate (18:1) as the developing agent, develop and take out , dry, and inspect under UV light (254nm). In the chromatogram of the test product, spots of the same color appear at the positions corresponding to the chromatogram of the reference substance.
The content is determined according to the volatile oil determination method (Appendix X D Method B). This product contains no less than 4.5 (ml/g) volatile oil.
The nature and flavor are pungent and warm in the meridians. Returns to the stomach meridian.
The main functions are to treat the circulation of temperature, digestion and pain relief. It is used for distension of the chest septum, cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, and inability to eat or drink.
Usage and dosage: 6 to 9 grams.
Storage in a cool, dry place.

Taboos for use
