Breadworms grow and develop by molting. They molt about once a week, and each time they molt, they grow an age.
Under the condition of suitable humidity, the molt of breadworm larvae is smooth, and there are few deaths. However, they are relatively weak when molting, so molting sometimes means death. The newly hatched larvae are 1st instar larvae and become 2nd instar larvae after molting for the first time.
The freshly molted breadworm larvae are milky white in color, and then gradually turn yellow. After 7 molts in 60 days, they become mature larvae. Breadworm mature larvae are 2.5-3 centimeters long, and then begin to turn into pupae.

Breadworm adults and larvae are omnivorous, feeding bran, rice bran as the main, and then add some green fodder. Adult worms are fed fish meal, soybean cake meal and so on as appropriate. Feed rationing can also be carried out to improve the yield of yellow mealworms.
