How to choose sweet cantaloupe?
1, look at the melon skin
See if there is any scar on the melon skin of Hami melon. The older the scar, the sweeter it is. It better be that the scar has cracked. Although this kind looks ugly, this kind of cantaloupe has a high sweetness and a particularly good taste. On the contrary, beautiful and scar-free cantaloupes are often raw. The more lines of melon, the finer the lines, the better, and the uglier the better.
Step 2 smell the fragrance
Smell the smell, and you'd better choose the one with obvious fragrance. Generally, when the fruit is ripe, the navel will give off a strong fruit fragrance. Mature melons have melon fragrance, while immature melons have no or weak fragrance.
Step 3 look at the top
Different varieties of cantaloupe have different colors, such as green skin, hemp skin and yellow skin. Hami melon with green skin and hemp skin will turn white when it matures. The top of the yellow-skinned cantaloupe will turn bright yellow when it matures. Different varieties of cantaloupe can be judged by the top color.
Step 4 touch your hand
No matter what kind of cantaloupe it is, the top will soften when it is cooked. Gently press the top of the melon with your hand. If it feels soft, it means the melon is ripe. But don't feel too soft, too soft is ripe. Mature melons should be solid, too hard and unfamiliar, too soft and too ripe.
5. Look at these tendrils
No matter which variety of Hami melon it is, when the melon is ripe, the tendrils on the melon nodes will obviously turn yellow. If you pick melons in Gua Tian, you can judge whether the melons are ripe or not according to the leaves at the internodes.
6. Look at the fruit handle
When the netted Hami melon is mature, the fruit stalk at the back end of the melon is slightly concave, smooth and densely netted. Hami melon without mesh or semi-mesh, when mature, the color of the back fruit stalk becomes bright, there are obvious spots, fine hair is peeled off, and the surface is tough and smooth. When some varieties of Hami melon are 90% mature, the fruit stalks will be layered and easily fall off naturally.
7. Look at this color
Hami melon peel color is divided into fruit green with reticulate, golden yellow, cyan and so on. No matter what kind, ripe and delicious melons should be bright in color.
8. Look at Guadi
In the transportation process of cantaloupe, it is often necessary to shorten the pedicel because of the long distance. At the same time, it should be noted that regardless of the length of the pedicel, the pedicel must be thin, and the thinner the melon, the sweeter it is.
How to preserve cantaloupe best?
It's best to put it in the refrigerator.
The cut cantaloupe can be stored in the refrigerator for 1~2 days. However, it is best to wrap the cantaloupe with plastic wrap before putting it in the refrigerator to avoid breeding bacteria. If there is no plastic wrap, you can eat it by cutting off the exposed part before eating.
