Xu Da, Tang He and Chang Yuchun all died of illness.

Historically, Xu Da died of back gangrene. Many unofficial histories recorded that Xu Da’s death was due to the roasted goose sent by Zhu Yuanzhang. Xu Da suffered from back gangrene. When Zhu Yuanzhang was concerned, he sent someone to deliver it Xu Da passed away shortly after eating the roast goose.

Tang He knew how to cater to the emperor's wishes. When Zhu Yuanzhang was worried about the old ministers who had military power, Tang He took the initiative to retreat bravely. Therefore, he was the first among many senior generals to ask to be relieved of military power. Zhu Yuanzhang immediately allocated funds to build a house for Tang He in his hometown in Fengyang, so that he could return home in rich clothes. After Tang He retired and returned to his hometown, he fell ill in the 23rd year and died in August of the 28th year. He was posthumously named King of Dongou and given the posthumous title of Xiangwu.

According to the "History of the Ming Dynasty": After attacking Daxingzhou, they defeated Kaiping. The division returned to Liuhechuan, where he died of a sudden illness at the age of forty. Chang Yuchun's death may have been an accident. He himself did not pay attention to his physical condition, and the weather factors at the time contributed to Chang Yuchun's death.
