The European Football Championship, referred to as the "European Cup", is the highest-level national football competition sponsored by the European Football Association Federation (UEFA) and attended by UEFA member associations.

In order to fill the four-year gap between the two World Cups and give European countries more opportunities to postpone the match, 1960 held the first "European Cup of Nations" and held it every four years thereafter. It was renamed as its current name on 1968, and has been held on 16 ever since.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the European Cup, the final of the 2020 European Championship will be hosted by 1 1 city, with 24 teams participating, from June 1 1 year to July/year.
