Platanistidae, a family of cetaceans, a suborder of toothed whales. Also known as freshwater dolphins, they are whales that mainly live in freshwater waters and are isolated in several different waters in Asia and South America. The family Pufferidae appeared earlier and is a relatively primitive cetacean. There are four existing genera. There are two genera in Asia and South America, with 1 to 2 species in each genus. Members of different genera have certain differences and are divided into different subfamilies. Others divide it into several different families. Members of the pufferfish family have flexible movements, strong head turning abilities, and relatively long beaks, making them masters at fishing. Members of the family Pufferfish in Asia include Lipotes vexillifer in the Yangtze River Basin of my country, and Platanista indi and Gangetica gangetica in the Indus and Ganges river basins. Indus and Gangetic river dolphins are often combined into one species. The distribution area happens to be the most densely populated area in the world, and its survival is under great threat and is on the verge of extinction. Among them, the white-tip dolphin may become extinct in the near future. Members of the family Pufferidae in the Americas include the Amazon river dolphin Inia geoffrensis, the Madeira river dolphin Inia boliviensis, which are distributed in rivers in northern South America, and the La Plata river dolphin Pontoporia blainvillei, which is distributed in the mouth of the Rio de la Plata and nearby waters in southern South America. The Amazon river dolphin is the largest type of river dolphin, similar in appearance to the white-finned dolphin. It is distributed in the Amazon River Basin, the Orinoco River Basin and other rivers in northern South America. Because it lives in rivers in inaccessible tropical rainforests, its population is extremely high. There are still relatively many, and it is the most widely distributed and abundant puffer fish in existence. Amazon river dolphins will enter flooded forests. Although they are larger, they can nimbly shuttle through trees. The Madeira river dolphin is relatively close to the Amazon river dolphin and is often classified into the same species. It is distributed in the Madeira River in Bolivia. The La Plata river dolphin is a type of river dolphin that prefers to live in the ocean. It is smaller in size and may be more numerous.
