So local blackfish farmers are usually careful to buy about 100 fry per catty. Very experienced farmers will also buy 600 or even 900 fry per catty for breeding. According to Mr. Yang, experienced means experienced, but every kind of blackfish fry will have a morbidity period from breeding, and every fish has to go through this stage. If a 600-900 pound blackfish fry reaches the morbidity period, once the breeder does not operate properly, it is easy to cause widespread death of the fry and heavy losses.
