Toona sinensis is a perennial deciduous tree of the genus Toona in the neem family, endemic to China. The tree is tall, the trunk is straight, smooth, the branches are few and strong, the material is fine and dense, with patterns. There is "Chinese mahogany" called. Toon leaves are pinnately compound, alternate on annual branches, each compound leaf has 17 to 19 leaflets. After sprouting in spring, the shoots are issued from the branches, wrapped in scales, with very short shoots and unfolded young leaves, and the shoots are elongated, and their lengths are about 10 centimeters when they are taken, and they are fresh and fragrant; if they are allowed to grow, the weight will increase, but the texture will become old, and the quality will decrease greatly. So toon eat for its shoots or shoot tips.

The buds of toon can be divided into:

(1) terminal bud: born at the top of annual branches and annual seedlings, formed in the first year, sprouted in the second year. After the terminal bud sprouts, the branches elongate and will make the trunk taller. Fertile terminal bud sprouting after timely picking for the toon quality products, but also the main body of the toon bud production.

(2) lateral buds: annual branches or annual seedling cadres leaves off the buds that are born at the base of the petiole. Toon apical dominance is strong, usually the top bud sprouting, in the top bud injury or break off before stimulating lateral bud sprouting. The lateral buds at the base of the main stem of an annual seedling sprout after the stubble has been flattened (cut off near the ground).

(3) Hidden buds: Buds attached to the trunk or branches of seedlings that are two or more years old are called hidden buds. Hidden buds generally rarely sprout, only after branch injury or short cut will sprout. If the two or three-year-old seedling stem flat stubble, the stem base of the hidden bud sprouting can form a new trunk.

Growing more than 10 years of robust parsnip trees will flower and set seed. Flowering period is mostly in June, the flowering period of half a month, white fragrant flowers, terminal, panicle. The fruit is a capsule, narrowly ellipsoid, dark brown, 1.5 to 3.3 centimeters long, with 15 to 25 seeds inside the fruit. The seeds have long membranous wings at one end, and the dried and de-winged seeds are nearly ellipsoid, flattened, and pointed at one end, so they resemble triangles. Fruit from green to yellow is a sign of seed maturity, seed maturity in October. Seeds can not be over-summer, into the June germination rate is almost zero, so the work of seedling sowing in April-May must be completed. Toon seed dry grain weight of about 9 grams, in the six months after the harvest germination rate can reach more than 80%.
