The body surface projection of the abdominal aorta on the anterior abdominal wall is a band with a width of about 2cm, starting from the jugular notch of the sternum to 2.5cm above the midpoint of the upper edge of the pubic symphysis, and going down to 2cm below the left navel, so the abdominal aorta is usually on the left side of the navel.

The abdominal aorta is to the left in front of the lower edge of the 12 thoracic vertebra, enters the retroperitoneal space through the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm, descends along the left front of the spine, and divides into the left and right common iliac arteries at the lower edge of the fourth lumbar vertebra. The front of abdominal aorta is the horizontal part of pancreas and duodenum, mesenteric root, etc., followed by the 1-4 lumbar vertebra and intervertebral disc, the inferior vena cava on the right side, the left sympathetic trunk waist on the left side, and there are lumbar lymph nodes, abdominal lymph nodes and nerve plexus around it. In anatomy, the navel roughly corresponds to the fourth lumbar vertebra, and the body surface projection of the abdominal aorta is roughly below the navel, so the abdominal aorta is usually on the left side of the navel.
