The time it takes for a silkworm chrysalis to turn into a silkworm moth is about 10 to 15 days.
After mating, adult silkworms will lay eggs and pupae. It takes about 4 days for silkworms to pupate. Then the formed pupae will undergo evolutionary development. After 10 to 15 days, It will break out of the pupa and turn into a moth. Because its evolution process is relatively slow, the growth and development time from silkworm chrysalis to silkworm moth is longer than that of other insects, with the slowest taking half a month.
During the development process of silkworm chrysalis, the color of its surface can also be used to roughly judge the time when it emerges from the cocoon and becomes a moth. When the pupa body of the silkworm chrysalis slowly softens, the pupa skin begins to wrinkle, and the color gradually turns earthy brown, it means that the silkworm chrysalis is about to turn into a silkworm moth. It should be added here that the silkworm chrysalis is also soft at the beginning, until the pupa body undergoes hardening and softening again, and finally it will break out of the pupa and become a moth.
Introduction to Silkworm Moth
Silkworm moth is the general name of the family Silkmothidae in the order Lepidoptera. There are about 100 kinds of silk moths, most of which can fly, such as mulberry moths, wild silkworms, etc. Not only that, silk moths can refer to the adults of silkworms. Initially, these adults could fly, but after continuous evolution and long-term domestication by humans, the current adults can no longer fly.
The silk moth looks like a butterfly, its body is white, but its two pairs of wings are smaller. Male silk moths are larger and crawl slowly, while female silk moths are smaller and crawl faster. Therefore, silk moths are also very different depending on their gender. After mating with male silkworm chrysalis, female silk moths will produce silkworm chrysalis, which will eventually turn into moths after undergoing pupa transformation.
