Amnesia is a temporary impairment of the brain's thinking ability (retrieval ability). Therefore, symptoms will disappear naturally over time. Dementia, which sometimes looks similar to this symptom, is caused by severe damage to the entire memory. They are two very different diseases. In medical parlance, this is called temporary memory impairment.
There is no natural magic cure for amnesia. It is necessary to find the cause of the disease, prevent it before it happens, or slow down the symptoms through adjustments.
1. Use your brain diligently and "use it or lose it" is a universal law in the development of the biological world, and the same is true for the brain. Diligent work and study can often keep people's memory in good condition. Maintain a strong interest in new things and dare to challenge. Middle-aged and elderly people often watch news, TV, movies, listen to music, especially play chess and Go, which can concentrate the brain's energy and keep brain cells active, thereby slowing down aging. In addition, consciously remembering some things appropriately, such as favorite lyrics, keeping a diary, etc. are also very helpful for memory.
2. Maintain a good mood. A good mood is conducive to the coordination and unity of the nervous system and various organs and systems, keeping the body's physiological metabolism in the best state, thereby feedback enhancing the vitality of brain cells, and is very helpful in improving memory.
3. Participate in regular physical exercise. Physical exercise can regulate and improve the excitation and inhibition processes of the brain, promote brain cell metabolism, enable brain function to be fully exerted, and delay brain aging.
4. Good living habits. There has always been a nerve center in the brain that manages time, the so-called biological clock. Work, study, activities, entertainment and diet must follow certain rules to avoid disorder and imbalance of the biological clock. In particular, we must ensure the quality and time of sleep. Sleep puts brain cells in a suppressed state and replenishes consumed energy. In terms of diet, the main culprits of low memory are sweets and salty foods. Eating more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber can improve memory. Ginkgo leaf extract can improve brain vitality, concentration, and also help memory. As for coffee, it can excite the brain in a short period of time. If we need to concentrate and remember to do something, we can drink a cup of coffee beforehand.
5. Explore some memory methods that suit you. Writing down things that you must remember in a notebook or on a note, making a list when you go shopping or on a business trip, writing things that must be done on a calendar... are some of the recommended memory methods. In addition, association and classification are some good memory habits. In fact, amnesia is not a terrible disease, but the depression, anxiety or low self-confidence caused by forgetfulness may bring greater harm. Once we understand amnesia, we should treat it correctly, actively adjust ourselves, and not let it trouble our work and life.
6. Check blood pressure regularly. Many patients with hypertension have no obvious symptoms in the early stages, so early detection and timely treatment are required. Long-term hypertension can damage memory by damaging brain cells and triggering mini-strokes.
7. Eat low-fat foods. In daily meals, we should pay attention to reducing the intake of saturated fats such as animal oils, and eat more fruits and vegetables, which will help improve the function of cerebral blood vessels. Maintain moderate exercise. Research shows that physical activity is also closely related to cognitive function and can delay mental decline.
8. Ensure adequate sleep. Because too little sleep time with eyes closed will put the brain in a "stress" state, affecting the ability to concentrate and recall information.
9. Do more mental activities. Reading, reading newspapers, playing chess, playing the piano, or learning a new language are all good mental exercises. Drink a small amount of alcohol. This can slow memory loss. But try to drink quality wine. Chew gum often. A study from a Japanese university shows that chewing may prevent memory loss. Therefore, they believe that chewing gum regularly is a good way to stimulate the hippocampus area without increasing food intake.
