Hedyotis diffusa, a perennial herb, is 10-30cm high. The rhizome is short and nearly erect. Leaves alternate; Petiole 10-20cm, the base expands into a dehiscent sheath; Leaf blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2-6cm long and 1-5cm wide, with a short tip and a rounded or slightly heart-shaped base. Racemes are drawn from leaf sheaths, with short peduncle, 1 lanceolate bracts at the base and 3-6 flowers; Perianth campanulate, 6-parted, blue-purple; Stamens are 6, with 1 piece larger, and the anthers are inserted at the base and split at the top; Ovary 3-loculed.
