How to provide first aid for heat stroke?

Although autumn has begun, autumn tigers are still wreaking havoc. During high temperatures, heat stroke is easy to occur. If someone around you suffers from heat stroke, how should you provide first aid? We have compiled "How to provide first aid for high temperature heat stroke" for you. I hope it will be helpful to you.

1. What is heat stroke?

Heat stroke refers to the symptoms of body temperature regulation disorder, water and electrolyte metabolism disorder and nervous system function damage under the long-term action of high temperature and thermal radiation. general name. Patients with craniocerebral diseases, the elderly, the weak, and pregnant women with poor heat tolerance are particularly susceptible to heatstroke. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency that can cause convulsions and death, permanent brain damage or kidney failure if not given prompt and effective treatment. A core body temperature of 41°C is a sign of serious prognosis; a slight increase in body temperature can often lead to death. Old age, frailty, and alcoholism may worsen the prognosis.

People with heatstroke generally present with elevated body temperature, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headache, accelerated pulse and breathing, flushed face without sweating, dry skin, and in severe cases, high fever, mental disorder, and convulsions. , or even coma or sudden death.

2. First aid measures for heat stroke

(1) On-site judgment

Premonitory heat stroke: headache, dizziness, thirst, and excessive sweating in a high temperature environment , weakness of limbs, inattention and uncoordinated movements and other symptoms. The body temperature is normal or slightly elevated.

Mild heat stroke: flushing of face, profuse sweating, burning skin, or symptoms such as clammy limbs, pale complexion, decreased blood pressure and rapid pulse. Body temperature is often higher than normal.

Severe heatstroke: It is the most serious type of heatstroke. If not treated in time, it will be life-threatening. Severe heatstroke can be divided into three types: heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

(2) Treatment mechanism

Normal human body temperature remains relatively stable as a result of the balance between heat production and heat dissipation. Heat stroke occurs when the environment is hot and humid, and the heat absorbed and generated by the body is greater than the heat emitted, causing the body temperature to rise sharply, causing a toxic effect on cells and causing widespread organ dysfunction. During first aid, you should first help the body dissipate and cool down, and then provide corresponding symptomatic treatment based on the lesions of the central nervous system, respiratory system, or cardiovascular system caused by heatstroke.

First aid methods:

1. Immediately move the patient to a ventilated, cool and dry place, such as corridors and under the shade of trees.

2. Make the patient lie on his back, unbutton his collar, and take off or loosen his coat. If your clothes are soaked with sweat, you should change to dry clothes and turn on the fan or air conditioner (direct blowing should be avoided) to dissipate heat as quickly as possible.

3. Use a wet towel to apply cold compresses to the head, armpits, groin, etc. If possible, wipe the whole body with warm water, and massage the skin and muscles at the same time to accelerate blood circulation and promote heat dissipation.

4. Patients who are conscious or who wake up after cooling down can drink mung bean soup, light salt water, or take Rendan, Shidishui and Huoxiang Zhengqi water (capsules) to relieve heat.

5. Once symptoms such as high fever, coma, convulsions, etc. occur, the patient should lie on his side with his head tilted back to keep the respiratory tract open. At the same time, call 120 immediately to ask for medical personnel for emergency treatment.
