Alias
L-Menthol, natural menthol, menthol
It is a highly volatile essential oil produced by the plant, which is mostly composed of sesquiterpenes, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenes, and is especially produced in warmer climates. Some important phytochromes are terpenoids or compounds containing terpenoid groups. Ryoji Noi and his colleagues discovered that a complex of BINAP and rhodium is very effective in synthesizing L-menthol; for this work, Noi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2001.
