Characteristics of Shatangju
Shatangju, also called October Orange, was named after its earliest birth in Shatang. Generally, Shatangju is characterized by high sweetness and delicious taste. It is an excellent variety in citrus, with thin peel, orange color, easy peeling, raised top and high sugar content, which is refreshing and intriguing after eating.
Generally, Shatangju can bear fruit in 3 years, and enter the full fruit period in about 5 years. Fruits are storable and cultivated in many areas of China, mainly in Guilin and Sichuan. Shatangju in Sihui huang tian zhen is the most authentic and the earliest place to cultivate Shatangju in China.
The growth of Shatangju requires high environment. The sandy soil rich in organic matter is the most suitable, and the temperature during the growing period should be controlled at about 12 ~ 37℃.
