Cherry matures in late spring and early summer (around mid-to-late May). Because it ripens earlier than other fruits, it is considered the first spring fruit in northern China. Yantai, Shandong Province is rich in natural resources and famous for its apples and cherries. Yantai Fushan is the "Hometown of China's Big Cherry", with the largest planting area, the highest yield and the best quality. Due to the special natural conditions and location advantages, the temperature difference between day and night is large, and a large amount of sugar is accumulated, making the cherries grow large, crisp and sweet. In order to consolidate the dominant position of large cherries as the leading industry, relevant departments and experts in our region have vigorously promoted and researched new varieties.
1 High planting requirements
Cherry likes a dry and cool climate, but does not like a dry and cold climate. Cherry is afraid of frost during the flowering period and heavy rain during the ripening period. Yantai is located at 37 degrees north latitude, with four distinct seasons and ample sunshine. In addition, Yantai has many hilly and mountainous areas, and the unique climate and geographical environment allow cherries to grow.
2Selection and sorting are difficult
Cherrys must be picked by hand. It is delicate and leans against the tree almost every day, mostly by old people. Often happens when they fall off. In order for everyone to eat the best cherries, they need to stay up late and work overtime to sort out the sizes, finally load them and send them to all parts of the country. The cherries are rancid, and they are afraid of cold, heat, waterlogging, and drought. Seedlings are the most difficult to survive and there are many pests. It takes two or three months to dig bugs out of the cracks in the trees. Every year, trees succumb to pests.
4. High nutritional value
Cherry has the highest iron content among all fruits and can supplement the iron needed by the human body. It is also rich in vitamins, which can enhance human immunity and promote gastric digestion. But it’s not easy to eat too many cherries, and you’ll get angry easily if you eat too much. It is a pure green food without pesticides and hormones.
5 varieties
There are many varieties of cherries, and different varieties have different prices. Early-maturing varieties include Ruby, Zaodaguo, Italian Zaohong, and Denghong; late-maturing varieties include Crystal, Renee, Meizao, Pioneer, Samito, Rabins, Ukraine No. 4, Da Zi, and Binku. Early maturing varieties are grown to satisfy the appetites of those who crave gourmet food. They are large, juicy and have a moderately sweet and sour taste. The price is lower compared to late maturing varieties. Late-ripening varieties are grown to satisfy gourmets with a sweet tooth. They are also larger and have more juice. Their flavor is crisp and sweet, and their flesh is difficult to transport (except for the crystals). Crystal meat is relatively soft and cannot withstand long-distance transportation, but it is very sweet. Late-maturing varieties are at the end of the cherry picking period and taste better than early-maturing varieties, so the price of late-maturing varieties is slightly higher.
6 Short growth cycle
Cherry only takes one month from maturity to completion, which is shorter than other fruits. Moreover, the fruits must be picked when they are 89% mature to facilitate long-distance transportation.
