The Vancouver Winter Olympics has set up 7 major events, 15 sub-events, and 86 minor events, which is also the largest number of events in any previous Winter Olympics. The competition is held in three places, namely Vancouver and the small town of Richmond, Whistler Snow Mountain 120 kilometers away from Vancouver, and Cypress Snow Mountain (also called Pine Mountain) more than 30 kilometers away from Vancouver.
In Prague on June 2, 2003, Vancouver narrowly defeated Pyeongchang of South Korea (Pyeongchang had 11 votes higher than Vancouver in the first round, and the committee members who voted for Salzburg in the second round all switched to Vancouver, so they won ) and Salzburg, obtained the right to host the 21st Winter Olympics in 2010.
