In my mind, the most impressive food desert city is Shenyang. This city is located in a vast and populous area in the northeast of China. As the capital city of Liaoning Province, it has a superior geographical location adjacent to the ocean and rich historical and cultural heritage, but it has been criticized for its lack of food.
In Shenyang, it's hard to find other delicious dishes except traditional northeast dishes and delicious seafood. Compared with other cities' diversified cuisines, Shenyang's cuisines suffer from a single and mediocre evaluation. Even the northeast cuisine shows a certain degree of dullness and monotony.
This situation does not quite match the historical and cultural background and regional environment of Shenyang. In the Battle of Liaoshen, Shenyang City once experienced a severely damaged battle, and the food culture was gradually inferior. In terms of geographical environment, Shenyang is adjacent to the ocean, with a cool climate and abundant local agricultural and animal husbandry resources, but these advantages have not really been brought into play.
Of course, Shenyang's food desert is not absolute, and there are also some minority foods such as barbecues, snacks and pasta that can provide some choices for the mouth. However, these minority foods have not paid enough attention to the promotion and inheritance, and some varieties are facing the risk of rapid disappearance.
For a city, food is undoubtedly an important cultural element, which is closely related to local history, climate, geography and other aspects. Although the current food situation in Shenyang may not be satisfactory, as a city with a long history and rich cultural heritage, Shenyang should also have more firm determination and courage in promoting and exploring food, so as to make the local food culture an important pillar of urban development.
