The part of Beijing that used to be called "the city" is now the boundary of the Second Ring Road. It is said that in the past, the Second Ring Road was a thick wall, and the entrances and exits were "doors" in all directions: Dongzhimen, Xizhimen, Jianguomen and Xuanwu Gate ... Because they seriously hindered traffic and their existence made Beijing look very closed, they were ruthlessly demolished.
As a result, Beijing suddenly became bright and open, and the boundaries between people in the city and those outside the city were no longer so clear, while the demolished wall bricks were pulled home by ordinary people to build houses and walls, which really solved many practical difficulties. But I don't know why it was not demolished at that time, leaving only a few buildings, such as Qianmen and Deshengmen, standing alone, witnessing the ever-changing pace of development in Beijing.
When I was a child, I thought this was a turret left over from the war. All the war movies I watched were about fighting against Japanese devils, so I naturally thought that Qianmen Building was used to fight against Japanese devils, and my young mind increased its admiration for it out of thin air.
Tiananmen Square has been going north along the central axis, passing through Di 'anmen Street, Gulou Street and the Giant Panda Roundabout built by the Asian Games, and you can reach Beichen Bridge in the North Fourth Ring Road. If you go west to Jianxiang Bridge and then go north, you can reach the world-famous Badaling Great Wall along the expressway. The Great Wall goes further north? Let's call it countryside.
This is the north of Beijing, and the pure geographical direction is still easy to figure out, because Beijing is very straight, and most buildings are due south and north.
However-
What about the north of life or the direction of life? Is it still that easy to figure out?
I think it may take people who live here a lifetime to identify it. ...
