Beijing Tianqiao is located outside Zhengyangmen in the east of Xuanwu District, Beijing. In ancient times, it was used by the Emperor to worship at the Temple of Heaven and the Xiannongtan, so it was called Tianqiao. After many renovations, it was completely demolished in 1934, and the bridge site no longer existed. Later, it existed as a place name in Beijing.
Qing Dynasty's Records of Shuntian Mansion of Guangxu recorded: "Yongdingmen Street, north of Zhengyangmen Street, Jingsan. There are bridges and overpasses. " And Yi Shunding, a famous poet in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, wrote in Tianqiao Qu that "many tourists don't remember home when they play with wine and drums", indicating the prosperity of Tianqiao at that time.
There was originally a white marble bridge, under which was a small river Longxugou, covering Zhengyangmen Street, passing through east and west zhushikou to the south, northwest of the Temple of Heaven Tanmen, and in the area north of Yongdingmen, and then an overpass market with Beijing flavor was formed.
Before liberation, many artists "laid the ground" near Tianqiao, that is, drew a white circle on the ground as a performance venue. At that time, acrobatics was a feature of Tianqiao market, with many items and superb skills, such as bow drawing, knife raising, diabolo shaking, fork dancing, playing Chinese complications and hard qigong.
Tianqiao area refers to the south of zhushikou, the north of Yongdingmen, the Temple of Heaven in the east and the Xiannongtan in the west. At that time, Tianqiao was the representative of civilian areas, where people could shop, watch acrobatics and taste some delicious food.
