Wan 'an Bridge is located at the east end of Qishuyan Old Street, Wujin District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province.
Wan 'an Bridge spans Sanshan Port and is located on the north bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. In the 14th year of Ming Chenghua (1478), Tongzhi Wu Huan built it, and it was named Qishuyan Bridge, also known as Wan 'an Bridge, which means happiness for all people.
It was rebuilt in the eighth year of Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (1495) and the thirteenth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1874), and now it is a municipal cultural relics protection unit.
Wan 'an Bridge is a single-hole bridge with longitudinal and sectional juxtaposition, granite stone, stone arch ring and stone bridge abutment. The center of the bridge deck is embedded with Longmen stone with embossed Ye Lian petal pattern, and thick guardrails are placed on both sides of the bridge deck. A pair of bridge ears are placed on both sides above the arch ring.
The word "Rebuild Wan 'an Bridge" is carved on the bridge forehead. The bridge is 28.5 meters long, with a clear span of 5.6 meters, a beam bottom elevation of 5.62 meters, a deck elevation of 6.34 meters, a bridge top surface width of 3.75 meters, and a bridge embankment width of about 4.5 meters. The east and west bridge steps are Grade 28 and Grade 12 respectively.
Introduction of Wujin District:
Wujin District, which belongs to Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the east of Changzhou City, spanning the Yangtze River Plain and Taihu Lake Plain, enclosing Changzhou City, bordering Wuxi Binhu District and Jiangyin City in the east, Yixing City in the south and Taihu Lake in the west, with a total area of 1,166 square kilometers.
Wujin district belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with dry, wet, cold and warm, four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall and long frost-free period.
Spring is usually from March to May, and southeast winds prevail. During the period, the warm and humid air mass from the ocean gradually strengthened, and the temperature rose. The strong cold air in the north sometimes went south, and it alternated with the warm and humid air mass, resulting in sunny and rainy weather, cold and warm weather, with continuous rainy weather for more than 5 days every year. Severe late frost in late March and early April will do harm to agricultural production.
