A bowl of wontons cooked by my grandpa

When I was a child, my parents were very busy at work, and I lived with my grandparents. Grandpa's house is on the first floor. There is a large yard at the door, which is where my friends and I often play.

Push the door and enter the house, pass through a corridor, and you will see a large living room with two sofas, a food cabinet and an old Eight Immortals table. Every morning, I would sit in front of this Eight Immortals table, waiting for the delicious breakfast prepared by my grandpa.

That day, as usual, I sat at the table, holding a chopstick dipped in water, and painted on the Eight Immortals table.

Grandpa was in the kitchen, helping me make wontons. The thin wonton wrappers were wrapped with a little bit of pork filling, served with seaweed and shrimp skin, and a few drops of sesame oil. It was delicious.

Smelling the aroma of wontons and my stomach growling, I seemed a little impatient, so I turned around from my chair and asked towards the kitchen: "Grandpa, are you okay?" "..." Halfway through my words, I realized that grandpa had already walked behind me carrying wontons.

But just when I turned around, my arm hit Grandpa’s hand holding the wontons. The boiling soup suddenly sloshed out from the mouth of the bowl and sprinkled on Grandpa's hand. If I let go at this time, the bowl would turn over and all the soup would be poured on me.

Grandpa held the bowl steadily with both hands, and not a drop of soup spilled on me. "This is what I'm most afraid of. It's okay, it's okay."

Grandpa said.

This may be the first memory of my life, and I still think of it from time to time. I don’t know what kind of power it had when the hot soup was spilled on my grandfather’s hands, allowing him to withstand the pain and hold the bowl steadily.

But I can deeply feel his full love for me.

2022 is almost over, and my grandpa has been away from me for a long time.

But wontons are still my first choice for breakfast. In addition to the delicious taste, they are also warm and touching.
